Long Term Care Ombudsman Program: This program is a coordinated system
of state and local agencies responsive to the concerns and problems of elderly
residents of area long term care facilities. Trained, certified volunteer ombudsman
receive, investigate, and resolve concerns made by or on behalf of residents of
adult homes, health-care facilities, and nursing homes. Ombudsman are trained
to monitor the quality of care, help protect resident rights, and assure residents
are treated with dignity and respect. Ombudsman services may be obtained by calling
Lifespan at (585) 244-8400, extention 114 or (800) 454-5030.
Foster Grandparent Program of Livingston, Steuben and Wyoming Counties:
Men and women age 55 and over volunteer 15-40 hours a week in area schools, youth
centers, and day care centers. Foster Grandparents help provide one on one attention
to children with special needs. Income eligible Foster Grandparent volunteers
receive a non-taxable stipend, training, and some transportation reimbursement.

Alzheimers Support Group: A support group to provide mutual support and
an opportunity for caregivers to share their experiences in coping with loved
ones afflicted with Alzheimers Disease or a related dementia. The support group
provides information on how to cope with stress and manage the individual and
unique problems faced by caregivers. Call the Livingston County Office for the
Aging for the meeting place, date, and time. More information is provided on out

Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP): Income qualified individuals receive
one annual payment sent directly to their fuel vendor to assist with the high
cost of heating their homes. Trained staff is available to assist individuals
sixty and over with the application process. Individuals must apply each year.
HEAP is available to both home owners and renters that meet program income guidelines.
Weatherization Referral Assistance Program (WRAP): A trained WRAP representative
will assess your energy-related needs and develop a plan to link individuals over
sixty to weatherization services, utility programs, benefits, programs and services
they are eligible for in the community. Any individual that qualifies for the
HEAP Program is eligible for the WRAP energy packaging service. If you own your
own home or mobile home or live in an apartment building of up to four units,
you may be eligible for help.
