Certified Aging in Place Specialist Program
The Livingston County Community Initiatives Council and the Rochester Home Builders’ Association are pleased to announce a partnership to provide nationally recognized training programs from the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) to Livingston County residents working in the construction profession. This is the first program of this type to be held in Livingston County.
Funded through the New York State Community Services Block Grant American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, participants who successfully complete the training will receive the NAHB University of Housing designation of CAPS – Certified Aging in Place Specialist. This program is designed to equip an individual with the strategies and techniques for marketing, designing and building aesthetically enriching, barrier-free living environments. “We are excited to partner with Livingston County on one of our many education programs,” said Dawn Aprile, Chairman of the Rochester Home Builders' Association and President of Premium Development Corporation of Geneseo.
This course will enable a participant to gain the skills needed to be more employable in the fastest growing employment areas -- that of serving the aging population. Millions of baby boomers need these trained professionals to help them identify and adapt their homes as they grow old,” Aprile added.
Finding and maintaining employment and safe and affordable housing were cited as top community needs by County residents in the recently completed 2008 Livingston County Community Needs Assessment. “This partnership with the RHBA is a big step towards helping Livingston County address these needs,” stated Brenda Weaver, Livingston County Community Initiatives Council Chairwoman. “This program will focus both on helping the unemployed or underemployed get a job through increased training, and will also help residents to remain in their homes as they age,” she continued.
Classes will be held on February 24-26, 2010, 8:30am – 5:00 p.m each day, at the Livingston County Emergency Operations Center in Hampton Corners, Groveland, New York. The deadline for registration is January 29, 2010. Must be a Livingston County resident. Income eligibility and application requirements apply. Interested Livingston County residents are encouraged to contact the Livingston County Planning Department at 585-243-7550, or Livingston County Workforce Development at 585-243-7047.
